about

Kim Cotter

Kim Cotter is a native of Colorado and graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she received her bachelor of arts and Juris Doctorate degrees. She has been practicing law in Colorado for 25 years, beginning with nearly a decade prosecuting domestic violence and child abuse cases for the Denver District Attorney’s Office and continuing to represent and fight for women and children as a family law and civil attorney with Colorado Legal Services.

Cotter has served on the board of directors for Family Tree and the Denver Domestic Violence Coordinating Council, both as a member and president for both organizations. Cotter considers herself first to be a trial attorney and litigator, but through her work over the past decade, she realized the importance and value of mediation in resolving family law disputes and is now a certified mediator in Colorado and is shifting her practice toward mediation.

Cotter has been married to her police sergeant husband for more than 10 years. They have three beautiful children and three rambunctious dogs.

Cotter is a volunteer for Denver Public Schools, serves as president of the Collaborative School Committee at her children’s school and volunteers for the Denver School Board Mill Oversight Committee.

Cotter’s family enjoys living in Colorado and experiencing the beauty through hiking, biking, camping and fishing and are passionate about traveling the world and experiencing the food and culture of new places.
